Our Story
Hundred Mile Brewing Co. started with an “aha” moment for me in 2014. I was touring a brewery in Whitefish, Montana, when I spotted a microscope. With my degree in Microbiology from ASU and a lifelong love of good beer, something just clicked.
My love for beer and community actually started pretty early. I collected beer cans and wore Budweiser shirts when I was 10...but not drinking beer yet! Growing up in Iowa, neighbors were like family and people gathered in front yards just to spend time together. That sense of community and connection is a big part of what I wanted Hundred Mile to feel like.
We created a place where people can slow down and share something meaningful over a pint, breaking bread with friends and family, enjoying a Sunday Lap Around the Lake, or simply striking up a conversation with someone they didn’t know before. Some of the best friendships start that way, and I love that they start right here.
Four decades after my ASU days, everything came full circle when Hundred Mile Brewing Co. opened in December 2022.
Thank you for being part of our story and more importantly, part of our Hundred Mile family. Cheers!

Sue
Founder/Owner
Hundred Mile Brewing Co. brings Sue Rigler full circle to her college days at Arizona State University, where she earned a degree in Microbiology. Ironically, HMBC sits on the very same parcel of land as the iconic '80s college bar The Devil House, a spot Sue frequented quite often back in the day! After 35 years in California, she moved back to Tempe and opened Hundred Mile in December 2022, a 100% solely woman owned brewery on the very same location. Serendipitous.
Sue, originally from Davenport, Iowa, was destined for the beer industry long before her legal drinking age, as evidenced by her beer can collection and the Budweiser t-shirts she wore at age 10. Her mix of science and business acumen led her back to school to complete the Certification Brewing Program at U.C. San Diego in 2014. She is a member of the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild, a past Board Member of Pink Boots Society and a current Board Member of Tempe Tourism.
Since opening, Hundred Mile was voted one of USA TODAY's Top 10 Best New Breweries in the country. The Tempe Chamber of Commerce named Hundred Mile Brewing its Small Business of the Year in 2024, and in 2025 named Sue its Business Woman of the Year. Sue and the brewery have been featured on Check, Please! Arizona, ABC15 and Arizona PBS. This fall she teamed up with Dragoon Brewing on Sibling Rivalry, a West Coast pilsner for the 100th ASU vs. Arizona game.
When she's not enjoying a clean, fresh craft beer, she's earning those carbs by training for a triathlon or road race. Sue is an accomplished Ironman, has out-swum the sharks in the "Escape from Alcatraz" triathlon twice, and leads the Sunday Lap Around the Lake run every week she's in town. The brewery partially gets its name from the hundreds of miles she's logged since she started running in 1978. She's a proud mom of four grown kids, all of whom mistakenly think they're getting free beer!
